Math & Science
Department
Our Math & Science Department engage students to think critically, ask questions without fear and solve real-life problems. Following the Common Core standards, students build a strong foundation in mathematics and explore biology, chemistry and physics through hands-on activities.
Lessons combine smart classroom technology with project-based learning, so students see how math and science work in everyday life. In the upper grades, students take advanced courses including AP electives that prepare them for competitive university programs.
Many Elite graduates now study Medicine, Dentistry, Engineering and Business, building on the skills they developed at our school.
Our curriculum follows a clear path from KG1 to Grade 12. Mathematics is aligned with the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) and science with the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). Young learners build number sense and scientific curiosity through play and observation. In middle school, students move into algebra, geometry and the core sciences. In high school, they study Algebra 2, Precalculus, Calculus, Biology, Chemistry and Physics, using Savvas, HMH and McGraw Hill programs together with digital platforms that support learning at school and at home.
Inquiry is at the heart of every lesson. Science lessons follow the 5E model (Engage, Explore, Explain, Elaborate, Evaluate), and mathematics lessons use problem-based learning built on recall, fluency, reasoning and problem solving. Every lesson plan connects the topic to real life and includes a MAP-style problem-solving question. Strategies such as Think-Pair-Share ask students to explain their thinking, not only to find the answer. A weekly lab period from Grade 1 to Grade 12 gives every student regular hands-on experience in biology, chemistry and physics.
Every learner is supported and challenged. Teachers differentiate tasks, questioning and depth of knowledge so that students of determination, students who need extra support and gifted learners all make strong progress. Regular assessment data helps teachers spot learning gaps early, plan targeted interventions and give advanced students more challenging work.
Assessment guides our teaching. Student progress is tracked through MAP Growth, CAT4, unit quizzes and termly examinations, and through the dashboards on our learning platforms. The department prepares students for international benchmarks such as TIMSS, PISA and PIRLS, and for university entrance requirements including EmSAT, SAT and the College Board Advanced Placement (AP) examinations.
Our results reflect this commitment. In the 2026 Advanced Placement examinations, every one of our 100 Math & Science exams earned a qualifying score of 3 or higher, and 89% earned the top score of 5. Our students averaged a perfect 5.00 in AP Calculus AB, AP Physics 1 and AP Precalculus, 4.89 in AP Biology, 4.88 in AP Physics C: Mechanics and 4.73 in AP Chemistry, well above both the UAE and global averages. In PISA 2025, our students scored 571 in mathematics and 548 in science, compared with OECD averages of 463 and 461. In TIMSS 2019, our Grade 8 students scored 494 in mathematics and 496 in science, both above the UAE average of 473.
STEM and innovation bring learning to life. Science teachers run STEM activities every term that link science with mathematics and English, and students design their own research and engineering projects. Recent student projects include an AI-powered robotic assistant for autism therapy, a smart cane for visually impaired users, a 360° smart hearing aid for People of Determination, an AI home-safety and medication-monitoring system, and an AI firefighting rescue robot. These projects tackle real community challenges and prepare students for school science fairs and national competitions.
Advanced Placement gives our senior students a head start. In 2026–2027, the department offers AP Biology, AP Chemistry, AP Physics 1, AP Physics C: Mechanics, AP Precalculus, AP Calculus AB and BC, and AP Environmental Science, with students from Grades 10 to 12 enrolled across these courses.
Professional excellence underpins everything we do. Our teachers collaborate in Professional Learning Communities, share best practice in monthly department meetings, take part in a weekly peer-observation schedule and receive ongoing training in improving students’ mathematics and science skills. This keeps our teaching current, consistent and focused on student outcomes.
