International Assessments
International assessments show how our students’ learning compares with that of students around the world. Students or classes are selected to take part, and results are reported for groups of students. Schools use the results to see where students are strong and where teaching can improve.
PIRLS: Reading
PIRLS (Progress in International Reading Literacy Study) measures how well young students read and understand fiction and information texts. It looks at the move from learning to read to reading to learn. It is taken in the upper elementary grades, usually Grade 4. Our students took part in Grade 5 in 2021.
TIMSS: Math and Science
TIMSS (Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study) measures what students know and can do in math and science, at Grades 4 and 8. It takes place every four years and shows how well students are learning these subjects at school. Our students last took part in 2023.
PISA: Applying Knowledge
PISA (Program for International Student Assessment) tests how well 15-year-olds use their reading, math and science skills in real-life situations. It is run by the OECD and takes place every three years. Our students last took part in 2025.
How We Track Progress?
MAP Growth (reading, language, math and science)
MAP Growth is an online test from NWEA that adapts to each student. Questions become harder or easier based on the student’s answers. It shows what your child is ready to learn next and how much progress they make over time.
CAT4 (thinking and reasoning skills)
CAT4, the Cognitive Abilities Test from GL Assessment, looks at how students think and learn. It covers verbal, non-verbal, quantitative and spatial reasoning. It isn’t based on the school curriculum, and students don’t pass or fail. Teachers use it to understand each student’s strengths and how to support them.
ABT (Arabic)
The Arabic Benchmark Test is an online assessment used in UAE schools. It measures reading, writing, listening and speaking in Arabic, for both Arabic speakers and non-Arabic speakers. It helps teachers see each student’s level and where more support is needed.
MAP Growth
ABT
